Competa – a great walking destination

Linda Sisson joined our Walking in Competa tour in June – it was her first Ramblers Worldwide holiday, and Competa proved to be the ideal destination for her.

My sister and I had a very enjoyable week in Competa, our first Ramblers experience. We met some very interesting people. The location was fantastic. The walks were varied and some quite challenging, not least because of the heat! Thank goodness that there was a pool at the hotel, which was a comfortable family-run business where the staff could not do enough for us.

Competa is one of the famous ‘white villages’ of Southern Spain, but is one of the lesser-known. The town is a picturesque labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets with whitewashed houses and old churches clinging to the hillside.

Life continues there as it has done for millennia, based on agriculture. It’s a great walking base, with a network of footpaths passing olive groves and valleys of orchards, and memorable views from the mountains down to the sea.Southern Spain, but is one of the lesser-known.
