Fascinating Francavilla

Fascinating Francavilla

Walking from Francavilla in Sicily – 14th – 20th May 2011

As soon as we found out at Gatwick that our leader in Francavilla was to be Matt (for the 3rd time) we knew that, whatever else, we would be in for a week’s tough walking! We were not wrong …

But it was a wonderful week, the weather (sunny and windy mostly) was perfect for walking and the flowers (this was mid-May) – breathtaking.

It seemed that everywhere we went there was a view of snow-capped Etna floating above the landscape. In spite of attempts by farmers to hinder our progress (barbed wire and locked gates) and the abundant vegetation which included thorns and brambles, Matt forged ahead with his trusty secateurs and his brilliant knowledge of the terrain.

We found the Hotel D’Orange very comfortable with a lovely balcony – if only we’d had time to sit on it!  Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, mind you the free Amaretto on the last night was possibly a mistake…

The C grade option was definitely a good one for us – a little more challenging and exciting that the D+ – more of these please, Ramblers Worldwide Holidays.
