Golfing and Walking in Spain

Golfing and Walking in Spain

I was the fortunate winner of the Ramblers Worldwide Holidays Golf Day Prize, an unbelievable trip to El Rompidoin, Andalucia, which I decided to extend and combine with the scheduled Ramblers Worldwide Holidays walking holiday at that venue. I had already tasted the RWH experience in September during a trip to Venice and Lake Garda, which I thoroughly enjoyed and found it was the perfect balance of sightseeing, walking and exploring the local area.

I was looking forward immensely to visiting this part of Spain which was completely new to me and I was certainly not disappointed. The week was so full; two rounds of golf on each of the first-class courses, both of which were “interesting” tests of golf and are quite individual in their own way; the views are magnificent and the courses very well maintained.

Our group proved to be great fun with several friendships formed. For me there were various highlights; a marvellous day of sightseeing in Seville, a city I have vowed to return to. Another was the trip to the Donana National Park which is a vast natural area of conservation. We arrived at the park before daylight and were able to explore many aspects of this beautiful area, and saw countless species of birds and animals. On another day we were taken to hills north of El Rompido, where the scenery was breathtaking and where we stumbled upon the most amazing deserted village, totally off the beaten track, offering a special tranquillity.

The day before we left, our walk ended at a local family-run restaurant where ten of us sat down to lunch. The menu had previously been tested and recommended by one of the group and we were not disappointed; the food was exceptional and reasonably priced, but most of all we shared our thoughts, experiences and feelings about a truly interesting, active and enjoyable time spent together.

I am now looking forward to January 2011 when my friend Alex (a seasoned RWH leader) and I set out around the world with Ramblers Worldwide Holidays on the 40 day trip. I can’t wait! And on my return I shall spend time on the golf course practice ground in case my luck and putts are in for me again next year!

Thank you Ramblers Worldwide Holidays for opening the world to me.
