Upper Inn Valley

Upper Inn Valley

I have just returned from a very enjoyable trip to the Upper Inn Valley. I was there four years ago and although I don’t normally go back to the same places time and again I was drawn to go back to Ladis as “C” grade walking is now available there. And I wasn’t disappointed.

Despite being unlucky enough to have a bit of mixed weather each day brought superb walking, and the C level walks I kept to were amongst the best I have experienced on a Ramblers’ holiday. The walks took us through fine valleys and to the tops of mountains that gave wonderful views across to various mountains in Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.

During our wanders we also came across all sorts of wildlife that included a rather tame marmot who seemed happy enough to scamper around in front of a keen set of photographers, and even a herd of cows that seemed to have a taste for ridge walking!

Our two walking leaders, Ursula and Julian, worked very well as a team and ensured everything ran smoothly from beginning to end on the walks and during our stay at the nicely appointed hotel in Ladis. They were also full of ideas and suggestions for good options on our “free” days, be that to go and enjoy more walks in the area, or heading off to do some sightseeing in either of nearby Innsbruck or Merano in the Sud Tyrol area of Italy.

The three resorts in this area of the Upper Inn Valley also offer a good concession as they issue a free lift and bus pass to all guests and so that helped us in getting around on most of the days and in lengthening the scope of the walking we were able to do.

So in all a very good trip that should satisfy most tastes.
